  • Where are you located?
I work at Ophidian Tattoo Gallery in Lakeview - 3732 N Broadway St, Chicago, IL 60613
  • What are your hours?
I tattoo by appointment only, every Tuesday through Saturday. The earliest available appointment is 1pm, and the latest is 5:30pm.
  • How do I book an appointment?
You can send an email to tattoosbypatrickcarroll@gmail.com or use the Booking Form. Please be sure to include details about what you’d like, preferred style, preferred placement, and your availability. Once reviewed, you will be offered available appointment times and asked to submit a deposit. After we agree on a day and time, and your deposit is paid, your appointment will be added to my google calendar and you will receive an invitation via email.
  • Do you accept walk-ins?
Very rarely. For the most part, I work by appointment only. If I have a substantial gap between appointments in the middle of the day, I may choose to entertain the idea of a walk-in or two if I don't have any drawing to catch up on for upcoming tattoos. In those instances, I post about the opening(s) on Instagram.
  • What is the shop minimum?
Ophidian Tattoo Gallery's shop minimum is $100; This price point is only for simple/tiny tattoos that take less than 30 minutes to complete. My minimum for custom tattoos is $250.
  • What will my tattoo cost?
As mentioned above, my minimum for custom tattoos is $250, so this will always be the starting point. The final price of each tattoo is based on a rate of $200 per hour, or $250 per hour for cover-ups and challenging placement. I try to avoid quoting an exact amount beforehand, as those factors can change on the day of your appointment. I'm happy to give you a general range, but please note the final cost can not properly be determined until the tattoo is completed.
  • Will you draw my design ahead of time and send it to me?
I usually don't have time to draw before the day of the appointment. I will have your completed design prepared for you by the time you arrive for your appointment, and will present it to you for final review. If you would like to make minor changes, that can be done on the spot. If you'd like major changes or a complete redraw, your appointment will need to be rescheduled; In this instance, your deposit is still valid for the new appointment.
  • What are your favorite things to tattoo?
I love doing scientific illustrations, diagrams, blueprints, anything woodcut-style, movie/TV references, and any/all flora & fauna!
  • Do you do cover-ups?
I do, when it is possible. The success of the cover-up depends on a lot of factors that we would need to speak about during a scheduled consultation.
  • Will you re-do an old tattoo that another artist did?
It depends on the tattoo. I prefer not to rework tattoos that don't suit my own artistic style.
  • Are there any kinds of tattoos you won't do?
Off the top of my head I can list a few examples: - Symbols of hate such as swastikas, MAGA, confederate flags, etc. - Religious iconography - Armbands of any kind - Realism/portraits - Soft black & gray - Anything on the neck, ribs, or stomach
  • Do you offer accommodations for clients with sensory concerns?
As a neurodivergent person myself, I'm acutely aware of the triggers tattooing/tattoo shops can present for those of us with sensory differences. Loud machines, loud music, smells, etc. If you have any concerns of this nature, please mention them when booking your appointment and I'll be happy to work with you as best as I can. You're welcome to wear headphones during your appointment, ask for specific music, or whatever may make you most comfortable.
